11. Sunday Dinner and TV.

There was a time when Sunday was for watching TV and ordering take out.  Sundays differed from weekdays where we watched TV and ordered takeout because on weekdays we'd go to work, too.

But on Sundays, there was no work.  There was TV.  There was takeout.

Now we have a kid.  This means there's no watching TV during the day, unless of course we want to watch SpongeBob, which we don't.

The only saving grace is that Nathan goes to bed early on Sundays.  Tonight he was down by 6:40, thank goodness.

In spite of how tired I am today and how much I got done around the house,  I managed to get dinner cooked.  I present to you penne, broccoli rabe, and sausage in a garlic and oil sauce topped with freshly grated parmesan.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I have some TV to watch.

  1. Looks delicious! I've never had broccoli rabe before but this makes it look quite tempting.

    1. It's yummy. It's a stronger, more bitter green than spinach, but if it's cooked right it's delicious!

  2. Good job on the food! It looks delicious. I'm single and I ate eggs for dinner, because I was too lazy to cook anything else...so you are way ahead of me :)

    1. About half way through cooking I would have much rather been making eggs, I assure you. I never make that meal on a weeknight because I just don't have that kind of time. Tonight my husband is out of town so I'm either having instant mashed potatoes or a tangerine. I haven't decided.

  3. First of all, your dinner looks delic. We are also a Sunday night takeout and TV kind of family, and I have often wondered what will happen when we have kids.

    1. It was really good. I enjoy that meal quite a bit, but it's a pain in my ass to make. My son doesn't eat with us because he doesn't like 99% of the foods that exist so we can still do our take out after he's in bed :)

  4. I will let you cook me dinner anytime! Glad you got some nice evening time. My kids never went to bed that early (even when they were getting up at 5).

    1. Sunday nights are my favorite because he's so tired he goes to bed so early. Since the switch back to Standard Time he's been getting up between 4:30 and 5:30, so he's extra tired. That's one thing that I've been lucky with - even though he gets up ridiculously early and wakes a zillion times in the night, he does go to bed early. And if I kept him up, he'd still get up early (I know, I've tried) and he ends up miserable. At least he can make up the hour in the evening.

And I'd be happy to cook you dinner!

  5. That looks delicious! It's amazing how kids change things. Ours is a picky eater which is a bummer but now it's to the point where I'm just like, "You know what, kid? If you won't eat frickin' anything then I'm just going to make what I like to eat. Then at least I'll enjoy the food while you're complaining about it."
